The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization. In addition to providing a wide variety of services and programs for cancer patients, family, friends, and caregivers, the ACS also supports cancer research, advocacy, and education. The Cancer Helpline, available 24 hours/day, connects callers with trained staff that can help answer general questions about cancer, recent diagnoses and treatment. Cancer Information Specialists can also provide information on support services and assist in finding local and national financial assistance programs.

Information is available in both English and Spanish, with select topics available in 11 other languages.

The American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO) provides information about childhood cancer, treatment protocols, medication, and research to families with children or adolescents with cancer. Through hospital and community-based programs, local affiliates provide direct support to patients and their families. Support resources include face-to-face and online support groups, childhood cancer camps, as well as free publications and kits. Affiliates may also provide emergency financial assistance for rent or mortgage payments, car repairs, transportation, pre-paid gas cards, and groceries. Benefits.gov is the official benefits website of the U.S. Government. The website, available in English and Spanish, is designed to help users find government benefit and assistance programs across multiple Federal agencies. Benefit Finder’s confidential prescreening questionnaire helps users identify which government benefits they may be eligible to receive.

Catholic Charities USA is a national network of agencies serving poor and vulnerable persons and families, regardless of faith. There are member agencies in nearly every state and in many U.S. territories which offer services based on the needs of the local community. Examples of services that may be available include: food banks, soup kitchens, home delivered meals, temporary shelter, transitional housing, health-related services, immigration and refugee services and counseling and mental health. Livestrong provides free, confidential, one-on-one support to anyone affected by cancer, including patients, loved ones, friends, health care professionals and caregivers. Through education, referrals, and counseling services, Livestrong helps patients, and their loved ones, manage the physical, emotional, and practical effects of cancer. Support resources provide information on insurance, employment and financial concerns, transportation, emotional support and counseling, treatment concerns and clinical trials, nutrition, specialized services for young adults, and information on fertility and associated financial support programs. Livestrong Cancer Navigators provide over-the-phone assistance in English and Spanish.

The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) is a voluntary health organization devoted to funding lymphoma research and providing patients and health care professionals with information on the disease. LRF’s support programs include the Lymphoma Support Network, a one-to-one peer support program that matches lymphoma patients or caregivers with volunteers who have had similar lymphoma-related experiences. Trained staff members are available to answer questions, offer individual support, and search for clinical trials on the Lymphoma Helpline and Clinical Trials Information Service. LRF’s Patient Aid Grant program provides limited assistance to lymphoma patients currently undergoing treatment for help with medical bills, transportation, temporary lodging, and childcare.

The research goals of LRF are focused on engaging and educating junior researchers and bringing together investigators focusing on specific diseases or other focal points. The Foundation has launched several special research programs, including an initiative to study mantle cell lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is especially challenging to treat. The Foundation advocates on behalf of the lymphoma community to increase federal funding for lymphoma research and education, and to ensure access to high-quality cancer care for every patient.

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) is a nonprofit collaboration of patients and families, physicians, advocates, and researchers dedicated to eradicating mesothelioma. The Meso Foundation aims to provide up-to-date information on the disease and its treatment, as well as to connect patients and families with specialists, support resources and community. Mesothelioma experts are available over-the-phone and via email. Patients traveling for an initial consultation and those enrolled in a clinical trial may be eligible for reimbursement of travel-related expenditures.

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) provides information for patients with multiple myeloma and other types of plasma cell disorders. In addition to resources specific to the disease, including information on signs and symptoms, initial diagnosis, and treatment options, a variety of publications and educational programs are available for patients and their caregivers. The MMRF also provides information on finding a treatment center, support groups, and financial assistance programs. Nurse Patient Navigators offer information and support over-the-phone, via email and through social media. Select publications are available in Spanish.

The National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) provides emotional, financial and educational support to children with cancer, their families and survivors. Types of financial assistance available include emergency assistance for living expenses, travel costs related to cancer treatment, and college scholarships for childhood cancer survivors. NCCS also provides information and support during and after treatment, including information on the late effects of childhood cancer and a list of long-term follow up clinics. Sisters Network® Inc. (SNI) is a national African American breast cancer survivorship organization that addresses the breast health needs of African American women through its affiliate chapters and partnerships with existing service providers. Sisters Network has a breast cancer assistance program (B-CAP) that provides assistance to women facing financial challenges after diagnosis. The program provides financial assistance for mammograms, copays, office visits, prescriptions, and medical-related lodging and transportation. An application form to apply for assistance may be obtained by calling or sending in a request via e-mail.

The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation (TNBC), in partnership with CancerCare, offers free, professional support services to anyone affected by triple negative breast cancer. Online resources include information on diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, publications, and a variety of educational and support forums.

The TNBC Helpline, available in English and Spanish, is staffed by experienced oncology social workers with specific knowledge of the disease. Helpline staff can also connect callers with CancerCare services, including: co-pay assistance, transportation and other social services.
